It’s hard to believe that there was a time, not so long ago, when we didn’t sell Silver jeans; these days, it’s rare for a day to go by without selling several pair and special ordering a few more. (Next time I see Cynthia Butler, our rep for great lines like Lulu Via, Angie, and By Deep, I need to give her a super high-five for recommending Silver to us.) Many customers are drawn in by the great price ($72 a pair!) but what is really amazing is how many different women look great in these jeans - we’re talking totally different shapes and sizes. If you haven’t tried Silver, come on in and try some different styles and washes. If Haley is working she’ll walk you through it, although Ann Marie and I are learning, too!

Who can’t behind sentiments like that? In fact, I am wearing the "love big" shirt today. Guess I’ll be wearing it on Thursday, too! Anyway, these are some of the graphics on our new Average Girl tees. They are super soft , 100% organic cotton tees, currently in long sleeve scoop necks (the short sleeves arrive later, and are made of bamboo). Several tees from our first delivery were purchased as gifts - I thought that was a nice idea.
We also have some cute Valentine’s Day stuff. Nothing crazy, just red heart rings (plastic, $10) and some cute necklaces. If you are on our email list, you received the special deal of the week. If not, check out what you missed, and sign up for the next offer on our "Deals" page!
in other news…why, why, why is it so cold and windy out? The wind keeps blowing the door of the store open and the awning is making crazy, creaky sounds. We need to start a countdown to spring!

First of all, I would like to say that it just took me, oh, I don’t know, maybe ten full minutes to figure out how to get the text to appear UNDER these photos. I love all this blog stuff but at 9:15 on a Friday night it can be frustrating. And in case you’re thinking, "Wow, she has no plans on Friday night, how sad that she’s updating the Mary Jane blog!" I would just like to make it known that I have plans TOMORROW night. And my days of two-weekend-night plans are o-v-e-r.
But enough about me. What I really want to say was that we got these new bags and wallets in yesterday and I love them. They’re from a Canadian company called Etse and I found them during my last trip to New York, where I drove down and went to the accessories show and then drove back, all in one day. (Free advice: Don’t do that.) They are faux-leather, which used to be a bad thing but is now a good thing, now that people are all vegany and earth-friendly. And now that cool companies like Shiraleah and Este have figured out how to do it right. I wish someone would make some cute faux-leather shoes. If you know of any, leave a comment below!
So it looks like we’ve reached the point where we’re getting new spring deliveries in every day, and that is good news. Probably means I should send out a coupon soon. If you haven’t already signed up for our email list, may I suggest doing so on the Deals page? It truly is the best way to get good deals at Mary Jane. No funny stuff, I promise.

We’re getting to that point in the year when I always wonder exactly WHY I live in New England. The holidays are over and the novelty of snow has worn off and now it is just all about being cold and staying inside. Actually, I am determined to spend some time outside today because it’s supposed to be in the balmy 40s - that’s just sad!
On the flip side, the days are clearly getting longer, and we’re getting more spring deliveries at Mary Jane. Here’s a beautiful silk dress from Lulu Via that came in yesterday and immediately went in the window.

It also comes in black. It’s so light, you can’t help but think of a summer evening and a warm breeze. And THAT is what keeps me going through these cold months. I absolutely love that feeling of collective elation in the spring - those first warm days when the store door is open and the play grounds are full, even though it’s a little chilly, and we’re all so happy because we made it through another winter. I can’t wait!

This week kicked my butt. It was a combination of the snow storm, the day care provider being on vacation, lack of sleep, and the stress of owning a business in New England during the slow winter months. So there you have it.
On a lighter note, we received some small but fun deliveries this week, including new Bungalow 360 designs, which are so cute that we already need to re-order several styles. The recycling symbol is emerging as the front-runner, not surprisingly, since everyone is "going green" these days!
We also got some new Threadless tees, including this gem for us carnivores.
And, last but not least, we are finally delving into the world of undergarments, with a line on bamboo underwear by Footprints. Bamboo is an eco-friendly fabric that is sooo soft and stretchy - you’ll be seeing a lot more of it in the near future. American Apparel underwear is also coming soon. It is time to answer the call for affordable, basic undergarments!

Happy New Year, everyone! Look at us - we’re all bloggy in 2008! And I (Lise), for one, am very excited. This will be a much better way to communicate with our excellent customers, about deals and new arrivals and fashion news and all of that fun stuff. There will be photos and links and lots of updates, and it’s going to be tremendous. (I’m fairly certain I’ve never actually used that word before.)
Of course, at this point, there’s not a TON of stuff to say… it was a decent holiday season and now 90% of the store is on sale. There’s still plenty of good merchandise left; it’s just a matter of getting lucky with your size. And it is going fast. We had a lot of big sales yesterday and today. People are scooping up La Canadienne boots, Born boots and shoes, Privo and Indigo shoes, Bungalow bags and every other kind of bag, all sorts of cute smock-y tops, baby clothing, and lots of other stuff I can’t remember.
The spring deliveries will start really soon, in just a few weeks. The first to arrive will be bags and they are sooo excellent, I can’t even tell you how excited I am to get the customer feedback. Lines like Shiraleah and Bungalow 360 and Maruca which always do so well for us, and then new lines like Este, a Canadian line of faux-leather bags that are certain to be instant top sellers.
Photos and more are coming soon. I just wanted to test the new blog!
